Nintendo has officially announced the pre-order details and pricing for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 console and its accompanying accessories. Despite the unchanged base price, the cost of accessories has seen a notable increase, prompting potential early adopters to reconsider their pre-order decisions.
The Nintendo Switch 2 retains its original pricing structure: $449.99 for the standard model and $499.99 for the bundle that includes Mario Kart World. The standalone version of Mario Kart remains at $79.99, while Donkey Kong Bananza is priced at $69.99.
However, the price hike is more pronounced in the accessories department. Below is a breakdown of the updated costs:
- Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller: $84.99
- Joy-Con 2 Pair: $94.99
- Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip: $39.99
- Joy-Con 2 Strap: $13.99
- Joy-Con 2 Wheel Set: $24.99

- Nintendo Switch 2 Dock Set: $119.99
- Nintendo Switch 2 Carrying Case & Screen Protector: $39.99

According to Nintendo's announcement, these price adjustments reflect changes in market conditions. Key items such as the Joy-Con 2 Pair and Pro Controller saw a $5 increase, while the Dock Set experienced a $10 jump, now priced at $119.99.
This price surge has sparked considerable discussion among fans, particularly regarding the cost of essential accessories like Joy-Con controllers. An additional pair of Joy-Cons now approaches triple-digit pricing, causing many to question the affordability of these add-ons.
Despite the higher costs, Nintendo assures consumers that several Switch 1 accessories remain compatible with the Switch 2. Accessories like the original Joy-Con controllers and the Switch 1 Pro Controller can be used with the new console, either wirelessly or through Bluetooth. Third-party controllers are also an option, though they may lack some functionalities, such as the C-button or wake-up capabilities.
In light of these developments, Nintendo stated in its announcement that further price adjustments are possible in response to evolving market conditions. For those who already own a Pro controller, this offers a degree of relief, as it can still be utilized with the Switch 2.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will commence on April 24, 2025.
