Dynasty Warriors Origins: Choosing the Right Difficulty Setting

May 16,2025 Author: George

Despite their hack-and-slash combat, there's a certain degree of skill required for Dynasty Warriors games. Dynasty Warriors: Origins recognizes this by offering players a choice between four different difficulty settings, thus allowing them to tailor the challenge to best suit their skill level and experience.

As this game serves as a reboot, both new and returning players may find themselves unsure about the best difficulty setting in Dynasty Warriors: Origins. The ideal choice can vary based on the player's skill level and the level of challenge they're seeking from the game.

All Dynasty Warriors: Origins Difficulty Settings

Dynasty Warriors: Origins features four difficulty settings, although initially, only three are accessible. Upon starting the game, players can choose between Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), and Hero (hard). The Ultimate Warrior (very hard) difficulty becomes available after completing one of the three factions' main scenarios.

It's worth noting that while there is a Trophy/Achievement for completing a single battle on Ultimate Warrior, no difficulty-specific Trophies/Achievements are tied to completing the main campaign.

Which Dynasty Warriors: Origins Difficulty Setting is Best?

Historian, the game's easy mode, is best suited for newcomers to the action-adventure genre or those primarily interested in the story. Wayfarer is recommended for the majority of players, even those with limited experience in Musou/Warriors games. Fans of the series should opt for Hero initially, while seasoned Musou game masters might consider stepping up to Ultimate Warrior once unlocked, to maintain a challenging experience as they tackle remaining missions, requests, and scenarios.

Players can adjust the difficulty setting between battles via the config menu if they find the gameplay too hard or too easy, without affecting the story.

Difficulty Mode Differences in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

In Historian mode, all enemy attacks are blockable, and it's easier to stagger enemies, gain bravery, and fill the Musou Gauge. On the other hand, Hero mode features stronger and more aggressive enemies, with shorter windows for parries and perfect evades, and no Meat Buns dropped by enemies. Blocking depletes bravery, there's less time to influence battles between allied and enemy armies, and there's a slight decrease in Skill Points and gold earned. Ultimate Warrior mode is an intensified version of Hero, with even tighter parry and evade windows and significantly reduced battle earnings.
