"Nintendo Switch 2: Joy-Con Mouse Controls for Home Menu Navigation"

Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the innovative Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls not only in games but also on the Home screen. Since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, enthusiasts have been buzzing with excitement about the potential applications of the new Joy-Con's mouse functionality. Last month, we finally received official confirmation that the Joy-Con can switch to a "mouse mode." In this mode, players can glide the controllers across surfaces and use the analog sticks to mimic a left-click and right-click, much like a traditional mouse. Moreover, it's possible to use two Joy-Con in mouse mode at once, one in each hand, or pair one in standard mode with the other in mouse mode for versatile control options.

The latest development, showcased via the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, reveals that the Joy-Con 2's mouse controls extend to navigating the Home menu on the Switch 2. As demonstrated in a recent post:

Nintendo explained, "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on screen. To display the cursor, set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it as shown."

Furthermore, Nintendo detailed that "while using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus. You can use mouse controls on the Home menu and in compatible software." To revert to using the thumbstick, simply reposition the Joy-Con 2 horizontally.

Although the exact number of games that will support these mouse controls remains undisclosed, Nintendo has demonstrated the technology working seamlessly with the Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree, Metroid Prime 4, and the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.

The eagerly awaited Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on June 5. Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 began on April 24, maintaining a price of $449.99 — and they sold out as quickly as anticipated.
