Tencent, the Chinese tech giant, has significantly increased its investment in Kuro Games, the developer behind the popular titles Wuthering Waves and Punishing: Gray Raven. This move grants Tencent majority ownership.
Tencent's Expanded Investment in Kuro Games

Tencent's acquisition of an additional 37% stake brings its total shareholding in Kuro Games to 51.4%. This surpasses the 50% threshold, giving Tencent controlling interest and making it the sole external shareholder. This follows an initial investment made in 2023.
Maintaining Operational Independence
Despite Tencent's majority ownership, Kuro Games assures continued operational independence. This mirrors Tencent's approach with other successful studios like Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant) and Supercell (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars). Kuro Games' official statement highlights that this acquisition fosters a "more stable external environment" and supports its long-term independence strategy. Tencent has yet to publicly acknowledge the acquisition.
Kuro Games' Successful Portfolio
Kuro Games is a prominent Chinese game developer, celebrated for its action RPG Punishing: Gray Raven and the recently released open-world adventure RPG Wuthering Waves. Both games have achieved remarkable success, each generating over $120 million USD in revenue and receiving ongoing updates. Wuthering Waves has even earned a Players' Voice nomination at The Game Awards.
