World of Warcraft's Patch 11.1 Introduces Thrilling New Race Modes
World of Warcraft's upcoming Patch 11.1 will feature two exciting new race types: high-speed Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and adrenaline-fueled Skyrocket races using Goblin jetpack technology. These innovative racing formats will replace traditional Skyriding events in Undermine, the new underground megalopolis coming in The War Within's first major content update.
Undermine: A No-Fly Zone With Alternative Transportation
The Undermine zone in Patch 11.1 will deliberately prohibit conventional flying mounts, instead offering players the D.R.I.V.E. system - customizable vehicle mounts optimized for navigating the Goblin capital's sprawling subterranean streets. These high-performance cars promise even greater speed than Skyriding mounts.
Skyrocket races introduce a unique hybrid movement system combining elements of both traditional flying and dynamic Skyriding: while racers maintain momentum like Skyriders, they can't hover in place like standard flyers. Gameplay footage reveals an innovative risk-reward mechanic where collecting speed rings increases velocity but reduces maneuverability.
Race Mechanics and Challenges
Both race types will feature:
- Standard and reverse course variants
- Bronze, Silver, and Gold time achievements
- Challenging ring-collection objectives
- Variable difficulty based on speed

Initial community feedback has been divided - while many players welcome the fresh gameplay elements, others find the jetpack mechanics currently lack responsiveness compared to Skyriding's fluid motion. With Patch 11.1 still in development (scheduled for February release), these new race systems may undergo further refinement.
