Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo brothers are bringing Doctor Doom back! Marvel's hinting at a prolonged "Doom era," akin to Dark Reign, rather than a short event. This means the Marvel universe will continue throughout most of 2025, but under Doom's iron fist as World Emperor and Sorcerer Supreme, leading the Superior Avengers.
Predictably, the Superior Avengers will feature villains, but with a twist. Familiar names will belong to new characters:
- Abomination: Kristoff, Doom's adopted son and Reed Richards' half-brother.
- Dr. Octopus: A new, unnamed woman.
- Ghost: A nameless woman (as in Ant-Man).
- Killmonger: A reimagined version.
- Malekith: The Black Elves remain on Earth.
- Onslaught: A new iteration.
This 6-issue Superior Avengers series, written by Steve Fox and illustrated by Luca Maresca, launches in April.

This isn't a novel concept. Remember Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers in 2009, or Hydra's Avengers in Secret Empire? Doom's rise isn't spontaneous; it's the culmination of several key events:
Emperor Doom: While not the origin, the 1987 graphic novel by Michelini and Hall perfectly encapsulates a world ruled by Doom.

President Doom 2099: Warren Ellis and Pat Broderick's Doom 2099 depicts a future where Doom nearly conquers America, showcasing his ambition and ideology.

Secret Wars (2015): Doom's role in Hickman's Avengers and Secret Wars highlights his relentless pursuit of power and immortality, masked as benevolent governance. His actions, like marrying Sue Storm, were driven by personal agendas.

Blood Hunt (2024): Jed McKay and Pepe Larraz's Blood Hunt is crucial. Doctor Strange enlists Doom to combat a vampire invasion, granting him the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme. Strange surprisingly leaves Doom in power, deeming the world not yet fully saved.

While we await the Russo/Downey Jr. vision, let's prepare for a world unequivocally under Doom's control.
