BioWare delivers both good and bad news for Dragon Age: The Veilguard players. The game will launch without Denuvo DRM, but PC players will miss out on preloading.
Veilguard's DRM-Free Approach: A Win for Players
No Preload for PC, However
BioWare's Michael Gamble announced on Twitter (X) that Veilguard will be Denuvo-free on PC, stating, "We trust you." This decision is welcomed by many PC gamers, as Denuvo DRM is often associated with performance issues. The absence of DRM eliminates potential performance problems and enhances the gaming experience. Many players expressed their appreciation for this move.
While the lack of DRM is a positive, BioWare confirmed a downside: no preload for PC players. This is a significant drawback, considering Veilguard's substantial 100GB file size. Console players, however, can preload the game without issue. Xbox early access players can install immediately, while PlayStation early access begins October 29th. Gamble also confirmed that the game will not require an always-online connection.
BioWare also revealed the game's system requirements. High-end PCs can utilize ray tracing and uncapped frame rates. Minimum specs aim for broad accessibility. Consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S) offer fidelity and performance modes, targeting 30 and 60 FPS respectively. To fully utilize ray tracing on PC, players will need a system with at least an Intel Core i9 9900K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X processor, 16GB of RAM, and an Nvidia RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon 6800XT graphics card.
