The game's release has faced delays, initially slated for November, then February 14th, and finally settling on March 20th. High expectations surround Assassin's Creed Shadows; it's the long-awaited Japan-set installment, the first full Assassin's Creed game since 2020, and a crucial title for Ubisoft following recent underperforming releases and investor concerns.

The promotional period has been less than ideal, however. The development team issued apologies for historical inaccuracies in its depiction of Japan and unauthorized use of a historical recreation group's flag. Further controversy arose when PureArts removed an "insensitive" collectible statue from sale. These incidents, coupled with the delays, have fueled fan impatience.
