May has arrived, marking the perfect time for Free Comic Book Day. Each year on the first Saturday of May, comic shops worldwide participate by offering free books. Many of these issues preview major upcoming storylines or bestselling series, making it worthwhile to visit your local shop despite the crowds.
2025 continues this tradition with standout releases like DC's DC All in 2025 Special Edition, Marvel's Fantastic Four/X-Men and The Amazing Spider-Man/Ultimate Universe books, and Skybound's latest Energon Universe special – all must-reads for this year's event.
Publisher: Marvel
Marvel's first FCBD offering features dual stories in one issue. Writer Joe Kelly and artist John Romita Jr. deliver a primer for the relaunched Amazing Spider-Man series, while Deniz Camp, Cody Ziglar, and Jonas Scharf present a prologue to Ultimate Universe's crossover event starring Miles Morales.
Publisher: Oni Press
Oni Press expands its EC Comics imprint with Blood Type, a vampire saga by Corinna Bechko and Andrea Sorrentino. This issue reprints the original short story from Epitaphs From the Abyss that launched the series, giving readers an exclusive first look.
Publisher: Titan
Titan Comics continues its FCBD tradition with Conan: Scourge of the Serpent, launching their annual crossover event. Three interconnected stories pit Conan against the serpent god Set in this action-packed preview.
Publisher: Dark Horse
Dark Horse highlights two fan-favorite franchises. The Critical Role segment follows Beau and Caleb's chaotic dinner theater misadventure, while the Black Hammer story explores Colonel Weird's pivotal role in shaping the series' past and future.
Publisher: DC
DC's flipbook special reveals glimpses into both their main universe and the new Absolute Universe. Dan Slott and Rafael Albuquerque introduce Superman Unlimited, while Jeff Lemire and Giuseppe Camuncoli offer fresh Absolute Universe content.
Publisher: Skybound
Skybound's Energon Universe continues expanding after Void Rivals' surprise Transformers/G.I. Joe connection. This issue features three new stories from the shared universe, with a cover-spoiling twist too big to reveal.
Publisher: Marvel
Marvel's second FCBD release teams Marvel's First Family with mutantkind. Ryan North and Humberto Ramos deliver a new FF tale, while Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing revisit Professor X's original X-Men recruitment – including a never-before-seen mutant rejection.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 3. While most comic shops participate, use FCBD's Store Locator to verify locations near you. Remember that shops pay shipping costs for these free books, so consider supporting them with additional purchases.
Digital readers should note that FCBD books typically arrive on platforms like Comixology, Marvel Unlimited, and DC Universe after a short delay varying by publisher.
Publisher: Dynamite
Dynamite's Gargoyles expansion continues with this Demona-focused special written by original creator Greg Weisman, offering fans substantial consolation for the absent animated revival.
Publisher: IDW
IDW previews its upcoming Godzilla shared universe with a ten-page prelude story plus sneak peeks at forthcoming ongoing titles, making this essential for kaiju enthusiasts.
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
BOOM! Studios previews its upcoming VR Troopers series with exclusive content alongside nostalgic looks at classic VR Troopers comics.
Publisher: Marvel
Marvel's revamped Star Wars line gets spotlighted with three distinct tales tied to Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, Star Wars: Jedi Knights, and Star Wars ongoing series.
Publisher: Dynamite
Dynamite delivers FCBD's most unpredictable crossover as the Powerpuff Girls visit Third Earth in this genre-blending special that defies expectations.
