This guide explains how to obtain and utilize the Crystalarium in Stardew Valley, a valuable tool for gemstone farming. The 1.6 update introduced subtle changes to its functionality, which are addressed here.
Obtaining a Crystalarium

The Crystalarium recipe unlocks at Mining Level 9. Crafting requires:
- 99 Stone
- 5 Gold Bars (from Gold Ore smelted with Coal in a Furnace)
- 2 Iridium Bars (from Iridium Ore smelted with Coal in a Furnace; found in Skull Cavern or from the Statue of Perfection)
- 1 Battery Pack (obtained by placing a Lightning Rod outside during a thunderstorm)
Alternatively, obtain a Crystalarium by:
- Completing the 25,000g Community Center bundle.
- Donating 50 minerals to the Museum.
Using the Crystalarium

Place the Crystalarium anywhere (indoors or outdoors). Popular locations include the Quarry for mass production.
The Crystalarium replicates any gemstone or mineral (except Prismatic Shards). Growth times vary: Quartz is fastest but least profitable; Diamonds are slowest but most valuable (5 days).
To move a Crystalarium, hit it with an axe or pickaxe. Any currently growing gem will drop. To change the gem being replicated, simply interact with the Crystalarium while holding the desired gem. The existing gem will be ejected, and the new one will begin growing.
Maximize profits by strategically using the Crystalarium to cultivate high-value gemstones, which also make excellent gifts for Pelican Town's residents.
