Ahead of the much-anticipated release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles, Aspyr has thrilled fans by confirming that Jar Jar Binks will join the roster of playable characters. Originally released in 2000, the game drew from the iconic characters and settings of Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace. Aspyr's new version aims to capitalize on this nostalgia, introducing fresh content such as the ability to customize lightsaber colors and support for cheat codes. Among the exciting new additions, Jar Jar Binks stands out as a surprising yet welcome character for players to control.
Aspyr unveiled this news through a captivating new trailer, providing a glimpse of Jar Jar Binks in action. The footage shows the beloved Gungan engaging enemies with a large staff, staying true to his character with his chaotic voice lines. While some fans may have fantasized about Jar Jar wielding a red lightsaber as the infamous Darth Jar Jar, the game keeps him grounded with his traditional weapon. Jar Jar Binks will be playable when Jedi Power Battles launches on January 23, and pre-orders are already available.
Aspyr is enhancing the game with a diverse array of new playable characters for its release on modern platforms. Alongside Jar Jar Binks, nine other characters have been introduced, ranging from the familiar Staff Tusken Raider and Rodian to various droids like the Flame Droid, Destroyer Droid, and Rifle Droid. Notably, another Gungan character, the Gungan Guard, will also be playable. With several more characters still to be announced, fans have much to look forward to.
As the release date of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles approaches, fans can soon experience these new characters firsthand. Aspyr's track record with updating classic franchise games, such as the re-release of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, suggests they are well-equipped to deliver the nostalgic yet updated experience fans are eager to enjoy.
