Some of my most cherished childhood memories are of playing co-op games with friends during summer vacation. As an adult, summers just don't feel the same. Perhaps it's the pressures of life or the scarcity of great couch co-op titles, but that carefree joy is hard to recapture. Fortunately, every now and then a truly special game comes along that brings back that exact feeling of pure delight.
Split Fiction, the latest release from It Takes Two creator Hazelight Studios, launched earlier this year with another stellar cooperative adventure built from the ground up for two players. Though just a few months old, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are already on sale for only $35 during Prime Day. Act quickly though—these Prime Day deals end tonight at midnight PT.

It Takes Two is already considered one of the greatest cooperative games ever made, winning the top prize at the 2021 Game Awards. Split Fiction is poised to become another instant classic.
Following in its predecessor's footsteps, Split Fiction offers a shared-screen experience built for two, playable either locally or online. It even includes a Friend Pass, meaning you and a friend only need one copy to play together.
The game is filled with memorable sequences that demand careful coordination with your partner to solve puzzles, seamlessly alternating between sci-fi and fantasy settings. Our review scored it a 9/10, noting: "Split Fiction is so compelling it's hard to stop playing. The experience constantly evolves, preventing any chance of boredom." In fact, it's already earned a spot on our list of the best games of 2025.

While the two games share some DNA, Split Fiction tells a completely new story with an original cast. If you missed It Takes Two, you can dive straight into Split Fiction without feeling lost. That said, longtime fans will appreciate numerous nods and inside jokes from the previous game.
