Spider-Man 2's PC port, initially touted for its impressive performance based on its system requirements, has received a mixed reception on Steam. A significant number of players are reporting various technical problems, resulting in a "mixed" user review rating.
Currently, only 55% of Steam reviews are positive. Many users with high-end hardware, including those with RTX 4090 GPUs and the latest Nvidia drivers, are experiencing frequent crashes. One user reported the game becoming completely unplayable due to crashes every five minutes. Another described the game's performance as "rough," citing issues such as loading problems in cutscenes, extremely low frame rates, audio desynchronization, freezing, stuttering, and other performance issues. Several players have already requested refunds due to the instability.
The primary issue appears to be frequent crashes related to the game's graphics driver. Error messages indicate potential causes such as outdated drivers, excessively high in-game settings for the GPU, GPU overheating, or game-related errors.
Beyond crashes, users have also reported problems with features like DLSS and ray tracing, alongside lengthy loading times, missing textures, and audio glitches. Some players claim performance stutters after extended play sessions often precede a complete game crash, suggesting a potential memory leak as a contributing factor.
Nixxes Software, the port developer, acknowledged the reported crashes on the Steam forums, directing users to their support website for troubleshooting guides and requesting logs and crash dumps for faster diagnosis. They also addressed a known bug affecting photo-op missions, recommending lowering graphics settings or resolution as a temporary workaround for users experiencing extremely low frame rates (below 20 FPS) during these sequences.
