MultiVersus to Conclude Operations After Season 5

MultiVersus is Shutting Down After Its 5th Season

Warner Bros. Games has announced the closure of MultiVersus, effective May 30, 2025, following the completion of its fifth and final season. The news, revealed via the official Twitter (X) account and website, confirmed that Season 5 will be the game's last content update.

Season 5 Launch and Final Roster

Season 5 commences February 4, 2025, introducing Aquaman (DC) and Lola Bunny (Looney Tunes) as playable characters, unlockable through gameplay. All new content will be accessible within this final season. Following the May 30th shutdown, MultiVersus will be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The reason for the game's closure remains unstated.

Offline Mode Remains

A silver lining for players is the continuation of offline gameplay. A local mode, supporting solo play against AI or multiplayer with up to three friends, will remain accessible. To retain this functionality, players must download the latest version between February 4th (9 AM PST) and May 30th (9 AM PDT). The game will automatically generate a local save file linked to the player's online account, preserving all earned and purchased content.

End of Transactions and Gleamium

Real-money transactions ceased on January 31, 2025. While Gleamium, the in-game premium currency, can no longer be purchased, existing balances can be used until Season 5's conclusion.

A Short but Action-Packed Run

Launched in July 2022 as a public beta, MultiVersus quickly gained attention as a free-to-play platform fighter. Following a relaunch in May 2024 with significant updates including new characters, rollback netcode, and a PvE mode, the game ultimately faced challenges, including reported technical difficulties and declining player numbers.

Despite its relatively short lifespan, MultiVersus will leave behind a legacy of 35 playable characters from diverse franchises. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude for the community's support.

MultiVersus remains available for download on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30, 2025.
