Hollow Knight: Silksong Sea of Sorrow DLC Revealed
Coming 2026
Hollow Knight: Silksong has officially revealed its upcoming free expansion, the Sea of Sorrow DLC, set to arrive in 2026. Following its win for Best Action/Adventure at The Game Awards 2025, developer Team Cherry shared a new blog post and a teaser trailer on December 15, 2025.
The blog post not only celebrated the game's record-breaking sales—surpassing 7 million copies sold—but also offered fans a first look at the new, free expansion for Hornet’s journey. The 41-second trailer shows the bug-tastic heroine navigating treacherous seas and embarking on a thrilling nautical adventure.
While details remain limited, Team Cherry has promised a wealth of new content. "New areas, bosses, tools, and more! Hornet’s adventures continue in our nautically themed expansion, coming free for all players next year. We’ll keep further details a secret for now, but expect additional info shortly before Hollow Knight: Silksong - Sea of Sorrow releases," the developers confirmed.

Although Team Cherry co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen previously confirmed earlier this month that Silksong would receive DLC, the exact release date for the expansion has not yet been disclosed.
If development follows a similar path to the original Hollow Knight’s free content packs, fans may see the Sea of Sorrow DLC arrive in the first half of 2026, as the original game’s two major DLCs were released within the first year of launch.
Hollow Knight Switch 2 Edition

Alongside the Sea of Sorrow DLC announcement, Team Cherry also revealed they are currently developing an enhanced version of Hollow Knight for the Nintendo Switch 2. According to the studio, the Switch 2 edition "incorporates all the updates and enhancements that Silksong received on the platform."
This includes high frame-rate modes, improved resolutions, and additional graphical upgrades. Additionally, players who already own Hollow Knight on the Nintendo Switch will receive the Switch 2 edition free of charge when it launches in 2026.
Team Cherry is also rolling out new features and bug fixes across all versions of the original game on all current platforms. Many of these updates are already available for PC via Steam and GOG, including full support for 16:10 and 21:9 aspect ratios for Steam Deck and ultrawide monitor users.

As Team Cherry accelerates development on Silksong’s first expansion, fans are eager to see the next chapter in Hornet’s story. Given that the original Hollow Knight released multiple DLCs, Sea of Sorrow could just be the beginning of a new wave of expansions for Silksong.
