Silent Hill f Earns 18+ Rating in Japan

Silent Hill f is the first title in the series to receive an 18+ age rating in Japan.

As shown in the Japanese reveal trailer released last night, the game is rated Mature in the United States, PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan.

Although the game is still in development and its rating could change, Automaton notes that previous entries like Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room all received a CERO:C rating (for ages 15 and up). Other games in the series developed outside Japan typically received either CERO:C or CERO:D (ages 17+).

Even the Silent Hill 2 Remake by Bloober Team, a reimagining of the 2001 classic, was rated CERO:C in Japan despite receiving a Mature (17+) rating in most Western markets.

Konami's latest Silent Hill Transmission presentation, which went live last night, was dedicated entirely to Silent Hill f—the first new mainline installment in the iconic horror franchise in 13 years.

Originally announced in 2022, Silent Hill f is set in 1960s Japan and follows Shimizu Hinako, a teenager grappling with intense social and familial pressures. The story is penned by Ryukishi07, the creator of the When They Cry visual novel series.

The trailer depicts Hinako in various states of distress—covered in blood, wounded, and dressed in a torn Japanese school uniform. Though much of the footage consists of cutscenes rather than gameplay, viewers get an extended look at the game’s setting, monster designs, and what appears to be an Otherworld overrun not by rust and industrial decay, but by vibrant, blood-red flowers.

As of now, Silent Hill f has no confirmed release date. Additionally, no new information was shared about No Code's Silent Hill project, Townfall.
