Hello, fellow gamers! Welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 28th, 2024. Yesterday's presentation was packed with exciting announcements, including several surprise game releases! This usually quiet Wednesday is anything but, and that's great news for us. We'll cover the latest news, review today's eShop additions, and highlight the day's new and expiring sales. Let's dive in!
Partner/Indie World Showcase: A Bounty of Games
Nintendo's strategic pairing of two smaller Directs proved effective, resulting in a flurry of announcements. Highlights include several surprise releases (detailed below), Capcom Fighting Collection 2, the Suikoden I & II remasters, Yakuza Kiwami, Tetris Forever, MySims, Worms Armageddon: Anniversary Edition, new entries in the Atelier and Rune Factory franchises, and much more. I recommend watching the full video; it's worth your time. Plenty of titles to satisfy diverse gaming preferences.
A surprise hit from the Direct, this third Castlevania compilation features the three Nintendo DS titles: Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. It also includes the infamous arcade game, Haunted Castle, along with an M2-developed remake—a significant improvement. M2's expertise shines through with excellent emulation and a comprehensive feature set. Exceptional value for the price.
This Wario Land-inspired platformer is another surprise release. Conquer the five challenging floors of the Pizza Tower to save your restaurant. Fans of Wario's handheld adventures will appreciate this title, but even casual platforming enthusiasts should give it a try. A review is planned.
Yet another unexpected release! Goat Simulator 3 delivers the chaotic gameplay fans expect. While performance on the Switch remains to be seen (given challenges on more powerful systems), the inherent absurdity of the game might even enhance any potential performance issues. Expect silly goats and potentially chaotic open-world antics.
Electronic Arts' decision to not bring PopCap's games to the Switch seems like a missed opportunity. For Peggle fans, Peglin is a perfect alternative. This mobile hit now graces the Switch, blending Peggle mechanics with turn-based RPG roguelite elements. A review will follow shortly.
Kairosoft's shop simulation formula gets a Doraemon makeover. This standard Kairosoft experience features characters from the popular manga and anime series, with even some appearances from the creator's other works. A charming and enjoyable addition.
More Pico Park for existing fans. Up to eight players can enjoy local or online multiplayer in this cooperative puzzle game. While not drastically different from the first game, it's a solid addition for those who crave more.
An affordable rhythm game featuring Kamitsubaki Studio's music. Simple but enjoyable for the price.
A classic Sokoban-style puzzle game featuring penguins. One hundred levels of crate-pushing fun.
Over three hundred quirky physics-based puzzles await. Utilize your character's abilities and drawing mechanics to solve puzzles, with local and online multiplayer for up to four players.
