Marvel Snap's roster of animal companions has been rather limited, with only a handful like Cosmo, Groose, Zabu, and Hit Monkey. However, the Brave New World season introduces a new feathered friend: Redwing, Falcon's pet.
Redwing's Mechanics in Marvel Snap
Redwing is a 3-cost, 4-power card with a unique ability: The first time it moves, it adds a card from your hand to its original location. This presents some key limitations:
- Single-Use Ability: Redwing's effect triggers only once, regardless of attempts to reuse it via cards like Symbiote Spider-Man.
- Targeting Challenges: Precisely targeting the card added to the original location proves difficult. Move decks often contain low-cost cards (like Iron Fist) that are undesirable additions, while Scream-centric decks typically manipulate opponent's cards rather than their own.
Despite these limitations, Redwing offers potential strategic advantages. Budget-friendly move cards like Madame Web or Cloak can activate Redwing, allowing for unexpected plays like early Galactus placement or summoning powerful cards like The Infinaut.
Optimal Redwing Decks in Marvel Snap
Currently, Redwing finds limited synergy within existing meta decks. Two potential integrations are explored:
1. Ares/Surtur Scream Deck: This high-cost deck (featuring Series 5 cards like Hydra Bob, Scream, Redwing, Surtur, Ares, and Cull Obsidian) aims to maximize Surtur's power using Aero and disrupt opponents with Heimdall. Redwing's inclusion is situational, often overshadowed by the priority of playing Surtur on turn 3. Hydra Bob can be substituted with other 1-cost cards like Rocket Raccoon or Iceman.
2. Madame Web Ongoing Deck: This deck (including Series 5 cards Madame Web and Doom 2099) focuses on the Doom 2099 Ongoing strategy. Madame Web facilitates power distribution, and Redwing provides an additional means of card manipulation. However, this deck's effectiveness hinges heavily on Doom 2099's presence. Without Madame Web, Redwing's inclusion becomes less impactful.
Is Redwing Worth Investing In?
Currently, Redwing's low power and limited synergy within prevalent archetypes render it a poor investment. Saving resources for future cards is recommended unless significant buffs are implemented. The card's potential is currently unrealized within the current meta.
