A Glimpse into Rhythm-Based Combat and Boss Battles

The recently released Ratatan gameplay trailer provides a thrilling preview of the game's unique blend of rhythm game mechanics and side-scrolling action. A highlight of the trailer is a dynamic boss battle against a colossal crab, demonstrating the intense and strategic combat awaiting players. The trailer was revealed during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025 by Ratatan Works.

The game will feature online co-op for up to four players, allowing friends to join forces in massive battles featuring up to 100 characters. This collaborative gameplay promises intense and chaotic fun.

Ratatan is a collaborative effort between Hiroyuki Kotani, the creator of Patapon, and Kemmei Adachi, the original Patapon composer. Its successful Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, has already surpassed its console launch stretch goal, ensuring a release on multiple platforms.

Closed Beta Test Commencing February 27, 2025

According to a post on the Kickstarter page, the Ratatan closed beta test will commence on February 27, 2025. Ratatan Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared exciting updates, revealing that the game has accumulated over 100,000 Steam wishlists and received positive feedback for its original soundtrack demo. While the game won't be featured in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is prioritizing the closed beta, aiming for a refined demo for the June Steam Next Fest.

Sakajiri outlined the closed beta's scope, confirming initial access to Stage 1, with Stages 2 and 3 to be added during the month-long testing period. He also noted that beta key distribution details and the exact start time will be announced on Discord and X (formerly Twitter) upon confirmation.

Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A precise release date is yet to be announced.
