Rambo Origin Movie in the Works From the Director of Sisu

Rambo is making a comeback, with a prequel film in development from Jalmari Helander, the director behind Sisu and Big Game. According to Deadline, Millennium Media is currently pitching the project, titled John Rambo, at the Cannes Film Market.

The Cannes market operates alongside the Cannes Film Festival, serving as a venue where upcoming movies seeking financing or distribution deals are showcased to potential investors. Millennium Media, recognized for producing The Expendables and Has Fallen franchises, was also involved in creating 2008’s Rambo and 2019’s Rambo: Last Blood.

Details regarding the plot of John Rambo remain under wraps, aside from confirmation that it will take place during the Vietnam War and act as a prequel to the iconic 1982 film First Blood. Casting decisions have not yet been finalized. Deadline notes that original Rambo star Sylvester Stallone is aware of the project but has no current involvement in its production.

While a Rambo prequel might seem surprising, Helander’s violent 2023 WWII action movie Sisu proves his capability; the film essentially reimagines John Wick as an aging Finnish commando unleashed against retreating Nazis after the Lapland War. This track record suggests he is well-equipped to handle the task.
