The Battle of Polytopia’s First World Championship concludes with the first-ever global champion

Polytopia’s first-ever World Championship has officially ended, and if Midjiwan needed confirmation that its minimalist strategy game has a vibrant competitive scene, they now have it.

More than 10,000 players registered for the qualifiers—the highest turnout in the studio’s history. After months of tribal conflicts, eliminations, and strategic map battles, ArthurL248 was crowned the inaugural Polytopia World Champion.

The path to victory proved unexpectedly intense for a game that initially appears deceptively calm. The competition began in September with the Battle of the Tribes qualifiers, where players competed for supremacy within each of Polytopia’s twelve tribes.

Six weeks later, the top player from each tribe advanced, narrowing the field to six finalists: ArthurL248 (Imperius), slimmingboy (Bardur), Dreamlander3000 (Oumaji), Theetat (Hoodrick), LeLiberateur (Xin-Xi), and Meisterlampe (Luxidoor).

These six competitors faced off in a live studio event on December 6th, featuring professional commentary and a dedicated spectator mode designed exclusively for the tournament. Midjiwan developed this mode to let viewers track cities, technologies, kills, score progression, and shifting advantages in real time.

ArthurL248 took home the $4,000 grand prize, while the other finalists shared the remaining $6,000 of the $10,000 prize pool: $2,000 for slimmingboy, $1,500 each for Theetat and Meisterlampe, and $500 each for Dreamlander and LeLiberateur. While not a massive purse, it’s a strong showing for a studio just beginning to explore major esports events.

The entire event was organized by Challengermode in partnership with Black Molly Entertainment, the team behind events like the Geoguessr World Cup. Given the overwhelming response, it’s likely Polytopia will expand its presence in esports next year.
