Days Gone Remastered, a highlight of Sony's recent State of Play presentation, has sparked controversy among PlayStation Plus subscribers due to its $10 upgrade policy.
Sony's $10 upgrade path to the PlayStation 5 remastered version is exclusively available to owners of the PlayStation 4 disc or digital copy of Days Gone. This excludes those who acquired the game through PlayStation Plus, either via the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or the April 2021 Essential monthly offering.
Consequently, PS Plus subscribers must pay the full $49.99 price for the PS5 remaster. This has prompted widespread online complaints from subscribers who expressed willingness to pay the $10 upgrade but will now forgo the game entirely.
A PlayStation Plus subreddit post exemplifies this sentiment, with numerous comments echoing the missed opportunity. Users highlight that Sony could have significantly increased revenue by including PS Plus users in the $10 upgrade program, even if only a portion chose to upgrade. Several users stated they would have paid the $10 to try the game, but won't pay full price. One user pointed out that Sony essentially gave away the game for free via PS Plus, losing out on potential $10 sales per subscriber.
