Grinding Gear Games has apologized for delaying Path of Exile 1's 3.26 update, prioritizing Path of Exile 2's launch and subsequent fixes. The update, initially slated for late October 2024 and then mid-February 2025, remains postponed.

The studio initially intended to temporarily shift the Path of Exile 1 team to Path of Exile 2 to address endgame issues before the December launch. However, unforeseen challenges with Path of Exile 2, including crashes and balance problems, necessitated the continued focus on the sequel. Game director Jonathan Rogers acknowledged the studio's miscalculation, stating they underestimated the time commitment.

Path of Exile 2's early access launch on December 6th, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S was ultimately successful, achieving significant player numbers. The 3.26 update for Path of Exile 1 is now indefinitely delayed, with no firm release date. Rogers expressed regret for the situation and admitted overconfidence in managing two games concurrently. The studio is currently refining its internal structure to better handle simultaneous development.
