Bethesda's Oblivion Remastered Sparks Debate on Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing
Nov 02,2025Author: Bella
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has ignited discussions about Nintendo’s pricing strategy for the Switch 2 and its games, with fans suggesting the Mario creator could take cues from Bethesda’s approach to game pricing.
Developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, Oblivion Remastered boasts a host of visual and gameplay enhancements. It delivers 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, alongside revamped leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. New dialogue, an improved third-person perspective, and advanced lip sync technology further elevate the experience. Fans are impressed, with some arguing it feels more like a remake than a remaster. Bethesda, however, has clarified its choice to label it a remaster.
Priced at $50, the base Oblivion game includes all original DLC, offering significant value that highlights the steep pricing of Nintendo’s Switch 2 titles.
In contrast, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition retails for $70, while The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 commands $80. Existing owners of the original Switch versions can upgrade for $10, and Nintendo Switch Online subscribers get the upgrade free. Yet, the $80 price tag for Tears of the Kingdom and other Switch 2 games has sparked widespread criticism online.
The pricing for Zelda’s Switch 2 editions draws further scrutiny. IGN confirmed that Breath of the Wild’s Nintendo Switch 2 Edition excludes the Expansion Pass, requiring an additional $20 for DLC access if not already owned.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Breath of the Wild features enhanced visuals, improved performance, achievements, and support for the new "Zelda Notes" service in the Nintendo Switch Online app. However, original Switch owners must upgrade to access these features.
For those without the game, the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Breath of the Wild costs $70—$10 more than its original price. The DLC Expansion Pass adds another $20, bringing the total to $90 for the complete Breath of the Wild experience on Switch 2.
Spending $90 on a 2017 Wii U title feels steep, especially when compared to Mario Kart World’s unprecedented $80 price and the Nintendo Switch 2’s $450 cost.
Oblivion Remastered, priced at $50 with all DLC included and praised as remake-worthy, underscores Nintendo’s pricing challenges in fan comparisons.

"Nintendo probably looks at Bethesda and thinks, ‘They could’ve charged $30 more,’" quipped redditor Cultural_Writing2999. "It’s tough for them to hear advice over the sound of their cash flow," added geldonyetich.

This sentiment reflects the view that Nintendo’s Switch 2 pricing hinges on consumer willingness to pay. Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Kantan Games, told IGN: “Nintendo sets these prices because they know fans will buy.”
