Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining a release mechanism utilizing pins within the SL and SR buttons to overcome the magnetic connection. Despite the change from sliding rails to magnets, the Joy-Con remain securely attached during gameplay.
