Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Features
Genki, a prominent accessory maker for handheld gaming devices, showcased a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design elements. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, accurately reflects the console's dimensions, hinting at a larger form factor approaching the size of Valve's Steam Deck.
Key features observed include magnetic Joy-Con controllers, a second USB-C port, and an intriguing new "C" button of unknown function. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining a release mechanism utilizing pins within the SL and SR buttons to overcome the magnetic connection. Despite the change from sliding rails to magnets, the Joy-Con remain securely attached during gameplay.
Further details emerged regarding the Joy-Con's "mounting channel," which incorporates optical sensors. This suggests potential functionality as a mouse, a theory supported by recently leaked Switch 2 images showing similar sensor placements.
While the Switch 2's increased size allows it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock, design modifications prevent compatibility. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remains a mystery, even to Genki.
