Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con is indeed the C button, as previously rumored.
The confirmation comes from the recently announced Nintendo Today! app. Listings on the App Store and Google Play include an image that, upon closer inspection, clearly reveals the letter "C" on the button.
The new button was first shown alongside the Switch 2 earlier this year, but initial images did not display any labeling. Previous reports had referred to it as the "C" button, which has now been verified.

There is considerable speculation surrounding the function of this button. Some theories suggest it could be related to wireless casting to a TV or screen sharing. Others speculate it may change the Joy-Con’s functionality—for example, switching to a mouse mode. There is also conjecture that the button could be tied to new group or voice chat features.
Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, so more details are expected to be revealed then. For now, here are the confirmed details:
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June based on the current hands-on event schedule. The console is larger than the original Switch, with bigger Joy-Con controllers that appear to function as a mouse. It features two USB-C ports—one on the top and another on the bottom, unlike the original model which had only one. The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, and the official reveal video confirms it supports both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, in addition to Switch 2 exclusives. However, some older Switch titles may not be fully compatible. A new Mario Kart game is also in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.
