Xbox 360 Updated with Series X/S Ads by Microsoft

Dec 25,2025 Author: Christian

An unexpected update has arrived for Xbox consoles – though perhaps not the model you'd anticipate.

Microsoft has released a new system patch for the Xbox 360, making several adjustments to the veteran console's dashboard interface. The most noticeable change? A prominent advertisement pushing the Xbox Series X/S to nostalgic gamers still using the aging system.

Microsoft's Upgrade Push

The tech giant appears determined to nudge Xbox 360 holdouts toward newer hardware, with bold Series X/S advertisements appearing on the dashboard. The messaging encourages users to "upgrade today" for "next-gen performance" – technically making it two generations beyond the 360's capabilities.

Conveniently, the update includes a scannable QR code linking directly to Microsoft Store, where users can browse the company's latest console offerings – now available at recently adjusted price points.

Dashboard Cleanup

This follows last year's marketplace shutdown that removed store-related elements from the interface. The latest refresh further streamlines the dashboard appearance.

For dedicated Xbox 360 fans, the update brings a welcome fix for game tile display issues that previously stretched artwork unnaturally.

Celebrating nearly two decades since its November 2005 debut, Microsoft continues supporting the classic console despite officially moving on from its development years ago.

Community Response

The unexpected update has been well-received among remaining Xbox 360 users. "Finally it looks better!" one fan commented on Reddit. Others noted the interface no longer appears "depressing" compared to previous versions.

"I had to check personally," another user wrote. "This attention to legacy systems is why I appreciate Xbox. They could've left us with a neglected dashboard, but they listened to the community."

The update arrives alongside Microsoft's recent reveal of upcoming hardware, including the Xbox-branded Asus Ally X handheld device. The company is also developing next-generation consoles, though specific launch dates remain undisclosed.
