Simu Liu, the Marvel star, is reviving hopes for a "Sleeping Dogs" film adaptation. Initially cancelled, the project now has a chance thanks to Liu's efforts.
Newsweek reports Liu's response on X/Twitter to a fan's plea for an adaptation. He stated he's actively "working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen."
The adaptation, announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached, vanished a year later. Yen recently confirmed its cancellation, citing years of work and investment, ultimately thwarted by the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.
Liu's social media intervention reignited interest. However, securing the rights and moving the project forward remains uncertain.
The original "Sleeping Dogs" video game, released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows Detective Wei Shen's undercover work within a Hong Kong Triad. Critically acclaimed (scoring an 8/10 on IGN), the game surprisingly lacked sequels. Liu's involvement could change that.
