Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal

Marvel Rivals has made a significant change to its player rank reset policy following community feedback. Dive into the details of the game's latest updates and future plans.

Marvel Rivals Backtracks On Their Player Rank Reset

Dev Talk 11 Updates on Seasonal Rank Adjustments

After receiving significant feedback from fans, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision on player rank resets announced in Dev Talk 10. The game's official Twitter (X) account shared the update, confirming a change in the seasonal rank adjustments.

The initial plan, which involved resetting players' ranks every 45 days or half-season, dropping them down four divisions, was met with criticism. Many players felt this approach was discouraging, particularly for those striving to climb the ranks.

In response, Dev Talk 11 clarified that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will now retain their scores and ranks from the first half of the season. However, the end-of-season reset will still occur, with players dropping six divisions.

Human Torch, The Thing, And Other Updates Still On The Way

Marvel Rivals Rank Reset Mid-Season Proves Too Controversial, Prompting Reversal

Despite the reversal on the mid-season rank reset, other planned updates are moving forward. The addition of new heroes, Human Torch and The Thing, remains on schedule, expanding the roster to 39 heroes. NetEase Games has committed to introducing two new playable characters each season, which spans three months.

The rewards system for players reaching Gold rank and above will stay the same. Those who achieve Gold rank post-update will receive a free Invisible Woman costume, while players at Grandmaster rank and above will earn Crests of Honor. At the season's end, players reaching Gold rank will receive another free costume, and Grandmaster rank players will again be awarded Crests of Honor.

Balance adjustments are also expected following the mid-season update, though specifics have not yet been disclosed.

Marvel Rivals Community Support

The swift response from Marvel Rivals to the community's backlash demonstrates their commitment to player satisfaction. Just hours after the controversial announcement in Dev Talk 10, the team released Dev Talk 11, addressing the concerns directly.

Marvel Rivals emphasized their dedication to improving the game, stating, "We strive to make Marvel Rivals the best game it can be, and the community is the driving force behind this mission! [...] Your engagement and support mean the world to us, and we're excited to continue this journey together!"

The next Marvel Rivals mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the latest updates and more information, visit our Marvel Rivals page.
