Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a smash hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, NetEase, the developer, has consistently stated it won't launch on the original Nintendo Switch due to performance limitations. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?
Recently, at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we spoke with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. He revealed that a Switch 2 release is a strong possibility. Wu explained: "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working with their development kits. If we can ensure excellent performance on the Switch 2, we're definitely open to it. The original Switch couldn't deliver the gameplay experience we aimed for. So, if that goal is achievable, we'll release it."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled last month. While specifics are still limited, it's anticipated to be a more powerful and enhanced system. Interestingly, it seems the console will incorporate mouse-like control functionality, potentially making shooter games like Marvel Rivals feel more akin to PC experiences. However, the precise implementation remains to be seen.
The Nintendo Switch 2 lacks a confirmed release date, although a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received positive reception. Our 8/10 review praised the game, stating it "might closely resemble previous hero shooters, but it's strongly positioned to claim the top spot." The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21st.
