Jason Momoa’s Lobo is officially set to make his debut in the 2026 DC Universe film *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*. The actor, best known for his role as Aquaman in the previous DC Extended Universe (DCEU), will rejoin the franchise with a fresh take on this iconic character. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa gave fans a small taste of what to expect from Lobo’s cinematic introduction.
Lobo is an alien mercenary and intergalactic bounty hunter hailing from the now-destroyed planet Czarnia. Possessing immense strength, unbreakable durability, and near-immortality, he stands out as one of the most formidable beings in the DC Comics universe. Much like Superman, Lobo is also the last surviving member of his species. Originally created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, the character made his first appearance in *Omega Men* #3 back in 1983.
Momoa expressed excitement about stepping into the role, calling Lobo his all-time favorite comic book character. He also noted that there are visual parallels between himself and the character—something that makes the casting feel especially fitting.
“This is the role I've always wanted to play,” Momoa shared. “That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool.”
When asked how much screen time Lobo would receive in *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow*, Momoa acknowledged that the film remains firmly Supergirl’s story:
“It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit.”
First Look at Supergirl Revealed
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn took to social media to unveil the first official image of Milly Alcock (*House of the Dragon*) as Kara Zor-El, better known as Supergirl. Although the photo didn’t reveal much, it marked a significant milestone in the development of the new DC Universe (DCU). Filming officially began earlier this year, with Gunn leading the creative charge.
Movie Based on Tom King Graphic Novel
The upcoming film draws heavy inspiration from the graphic novel *Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow* by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira. The story follows Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young alien girl who seeks justice for the murder of her father by the ruthless villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. She turns to Supergirl for help, setting off a powerful tale of vengeance, growth, and heroism.
Cast Details
Joining Alcock and Momoa in key roles are Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, David Krumholtz as Zor-El (Supergirl’s father), and Emily Beecham as Alura (Supergirl’s mother).
DCU Release Schedule
*Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow* is scheduled for release in June 2026 and will serve as the second installment in the newly launched DCU. It follows James Gunn’s *Superman*, which hits theaters this summer. After that, fans can look forward to the *Clayface* movie slated for September 2026, continuing the rollout of the expanded DC Universe under Gunn’s leadership.
