Japanese Switch 2 Priced Lower Than Global Model

May 20,2025 Author: Eleanor

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch with different pricing strategies in Japan and worldwide, reflecting regional economic considerations and catering to specific market demands. Let's delve into the details of the upcoming console's pricing and availability.

Switch 2 Will Have 2 Language System Versions

Japanese Switch 2 to Sell at Lower Price than Global Version

The Nintendo Switch 2 will come in two distinct versions: a Japanese-language system, available only in Japan, and a Multi-Language System, available globally. The Japanese version is priced at approximately $330, significantly lower than the Multi-Language System, which will cost $449.99. This price disparity is largely due to the weakened yen against the USD, making it less attractive for tourists to buy the console in Japan.

Residents of Japan have the option to purchase either version, but the Japanese-language system is exclusively for those with a Nintendo Account set to Japan. This version supports only the Japanese language and is limited to software available on the Japanese Nintendo eShop. For gamers who prefer playing in languages other than Japanese, Nintendo recommends purchasing the Multi-Language System version. Further details on this version will be disclosed on April 4.

Switch 2 Will Be Sold By Lottery At The My Nintendo Store

To get your hands on the Nintendo Switch 2, you'll need to participate in a lottery system on the My Nintendo Store. Additionally, various retailers and online shops across the nation will start accepting reservations or lottery entries on April 24, subject to availability. To be eligible for the My Nintendo Store lottery, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • By February 28, 2025, you must have accumulated at least 50 hours of playtime on Nintendo Switch software (excluding demo and free software).
  • At the time of application, you need to have been subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online for at least one year and maintain an active subscription.

More detailed information regarding the application process will be available on the My Nintendo Store starting April 4.
