With a new Wonder Woman film in development, speculation swirls around James Gunn’s choice to succeed Gal Gadot as the iconic superhero in the revamped DC Universe.
Fan theories have surged based on Gunn’s social media activity, particularly after he followed actress Adria Arjona on Instagram, sparking rumors she could be the next Wonder Woman.
In a recent interview, Gunn dismissed the weight of his social media follows but left fans intrigued with a comment that intensified the speculation.

Gunn specifically mentioned Adria Arjona, the actress Extra was referencing. Known for roles as Dorothy Gale in Emerald City, Anathema Device in Good Omens, and Bix Caleen in Andor, Arjona is at the center of fan speculation after Gunn’s Instagram follow caught attention.
Gunn clarified he followed Arjona after collaborating on the 2016 thriller The Belko Experiment, urging fans not to overanalyze. Yet, he added that Arjona would "make an excellent Wonder Woman," a remark that suggests she’s at least in consideration.

Gunn’s full statement reads:
“I followed Adria Arjona on Instagram, and suddenly everyone’s saying, ‘He followed her, so she’s Wonder Woman! She’s definitely Wonder Woman!’
“She’d be an excellent Wonder Woman, for sure. But we worked together on a film seven years ago. We’ve been friends since then. I followed her back then, not recently. People just pick up on these things constantly.”
Does this confirm Arjona as the next Wonder Woman? Gunn’s comments have only amplified the rumors, though DC Studios has yet to make an official announcement.
The new DC Universe launches with Superman this month, followed by Peacemaker Season 2 in August, and Supergirl and Clayface in 2026. Wonder Woman’s release date remains unconfirmed.
