No Canine Casualties in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
A Dog Lover's Paradise, According to MachineGames
While video games frequently depict violence against animals, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny takes a different path.
"Indiana Jones is a dog person," confirmed MachineGames Creative Director Jens Andersson in an IGN interview. Although Indy's adventures are often perilous, the developers have ensured that, unlike previous MachineGames titles like Wolfenstein, interactions with dogs remain non-lethal. Indy can still engage in fisticuffs with human foes, but canine encounters will involve scaring them off, not harming them.
Andersson elaborated, stating, "It’s a family-friendly IP in many ways. This is how we maintain that. We have dogs in the game, but you won't hurt them. You'll scare them away."
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny launches December 9th on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a tentative PS5 release in Spring 2025. Set in 1937, between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, the narrative begins with Indy pursuing artifacts pilfered from Marshall College. His quest takes him from the Vatican to Egyptian pyramids and even the submerged temples of Sukhothai.
Indy's trusty whip serves as both traversal tool and weapon, allowing him to disarm and subdue enemies as he navigates open-world-inspired environments. Rest assured, dog lovers – Indy's whip will remain firmly un-deployed against any four-legged friends.
