In an insightful interview at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon shed light on how the upcoming game, Mortal Kombat 1, will handle the characters Omni-Man and Homelander. Boon emphasized the team's commitment to ensuring that these two iconic figures from different universes will have distinctly different movesets, addressing fans' concerns about potential similarities in their combat styles.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
During the IGN interview, Boon discussed the creative approach taken by the MK1 developers. He explained that while they have the freedom to explore various concepts for the characters, they are keen on avoiding any overlap, particularly with abilities reminiscent of Superman, such as heat vision. Boon stated, "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that."
Boon further elaborated on how the team drew inspiration from the actions seen in the respective shows of these heroes to craft unique Fatalities for each. He assured fans that the core attacks of Homelander and Omni-Man would be significantly different, countering any assumptions that they might be just variations of the same character. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, 'Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters.'"
