Godzilla vs. Los Angeles Roars to Aid Wildfire Relief

Godzilla's destructive path, typically focused on Tokyo, takes a westward turn in IDW Publishing and Toho's new series, Godzilla vs. America. Following the Chicago installment, the series continues its rampage with Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1, a four-story anthology showcasing Godzilla's attack on the City of Angels.

This April release boasts a talented creative team including Gabriel Hardman, J. Gonzo, Dave Baker, and Nicole Goux. The comic depicts Godzilla battling everything from giant lowrider mechs to traversing theme parks, even incorporating a humorous take on the LA subway system. The overarching theme highlights Angelenos uniting against a formidable natural disaster.

Acknowledging the sensitive timing given recent devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles area, IDW has pledged to donate all proceeds from Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1 to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (Binc), supporting bookstores and comic shops impacted by the fires. The publisher released a statement emphasizing their commitment to community support and clarifying that the comic's themes, while coincidentally mirroring current events, explore broader concepts of human resilience in the face of tragedy. The project, in development since July 2024, is not intended to exploit the situation.

Associate editor Nicolas Niño expressed his pride in collaborating with Los Angeles-based artists on this project, viewing it as a celebration of the city's spirit and its ability to overcome adversity.

Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1 hits shelves April 30, 2025, with final orders due March 24, 2025. For further updates on upcoming comic releases, explore anticipated titles from Marvel and DC in 2025.
