Evil Dead: The Game, the asymmetric multiplayer title inspired by the iconic action horror franchise, has been removed from digital storefronts by its publisher, marking the end of its availability for purchase. Launched in 2022 across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, the game received an 8/10 from IGN, with our review praising it as a "compelling and exhilarating" experience, though "rough around the edges." Despite the release of a Game of the Year Edition a year later, the game struggled to maintain player engagement. The planned Nintendo Switch version was canceled in September 2023, and further content development ceased.
Now, three years post-launch, Evil Dead: The Game has been officially discontinued, though its servers will remain operational, allowing existing owners to continue playing. In a statement on the game's Steam page, developer and publisher Saber Interactive confirmed the delisting:
"We can confirm we've begun the process of removing the game from digital storefronts. Anyone who has purchased the game will still be able to play it as we plan to keep our servers online for everyone.
We want to extend a sincere thank you to our community, to those who have been part of the game from the very beginning, and those who have recently joined us. We appreciate all of your support."
The decision has sparked numerous negative reviews on the game’s Steam page, with many players feeling that this move effectively seals the game's fate. Despite this, Evil Dead: The Game maintains a 'mixed' user review rating on Steam. One player, with over 380 hours logged, left a positive review, stating, "The end is nigh. It was fun while it lasted, lads. I mean that."
Saber Interactive, known for last year's successful Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, continues to work on several licensed movie games. Upcoming titles include John Carpenter's Toxic Commando, Jurassic Park Survival, and an untitled Avatar: The Last Airbender game. Additionally, Turok: Origins and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 3 are in development.
