While the Like a Dragon series is renowned for its humor, particularly Majima's comedic antics, director Masayoshi Yokoyama reveals a "more serious" side to Majima in this iteration, especially at the story's outset.
Producer Ryosuke Horii emphasizes the "manly drama" at the heart of the game, focusing on Majima's passionate pursuit of his goals and the bonds he forges along the way. He clarifies that while the game features its share of "crazy detours," the core narrative centers on a passionate individual's journey. Horii highlights Majima's unique qualities, distinct from series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, making him the ideal lead for this unconventional adventure. The team aimed for a balance between the pirate theme, Majima's personality, and the overall Like a Dragon essence, a challenge they readily embraced.
The developers strived for a compelling balance between realism and extravagance, avoiding a predictable or dull experience. Their commitment to a "wilder" gameplay style, while maintaining a serious and engaging narrative, is evident.
To celebrate the game's launch, RGG Studio is hosting "Majima's Maji Festival" in six Japanese cities. The tour, which began in Sapporo on December 1st, 2024, concludes with events in Nagoya (January 18th) and Tokyo (January 25th).
