A Festive Surprise: Unexpected Decorations Light Up Destiny 1's Tower
Seven years after its initial release, Destiny 1's Tower has received a mysterious and unexpected update, adorned with festive lights and decorations. This unannounced addition, discovered by players on January 5th, has sparked considerable speculation within the community.
While Destiny 2 has become Bungie's flagship title, a dedicated fanbase still enjoys the original Destiny experience. Bungie's continued integration of legacy content, including classic raids and exotic weapons, into Destiny 2 underscores this enduring appeal. However, this latest development in the original game is entirely unexpected.
The newly added decorations feature Ghost-shaped lights, reminiscent of past seasonal events like The Dawning. However, unlike previous events, the Tower lacks seasonal elements like snow, and the banners differ. Crucially, no in-game prompts or quests accompany these decorations, adding to the mystery.
A Ghost of Events Past?
The leading theory among players points to a scrapped event, tentatively titled "Days of the Dawning," originally planned for 2016. Reddit user Breshi and others have compared unused assets from this cancelled event to the current Tower decorations, suggesting a strong visual correlation. The prevailing belief is that the decorations were inadvertently scheduled for a future date, a date long after Bungie anticipated the original Destiny's active player base would dwindle to zero.
As of this writing, Bungie has yet to officially comment on this unexpected update. The year 2017 marked a significant shift for the franchise, with all live events transitioning to Destiny 2. This spontaneous festive makeover, therefore, remains an unofficial, albeit delightful, surprise for players of the original Destiny, a temporary treat before its likely removal.
