Batman Returns with New Comic and Costume

Nov 22,2025 Author: Mila

2025 is shaping up to be a monumental year for DC's flagship Batman comic series. Current writer Chip Zdarsky recently concluded his run with Batman #157, setting the stage for Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee’s Hush 2 storyline in March. Once Hush 2 concludes, DC will relaunch Batman with a new #1 issue, a fresh creative team, and an all-new costume.

As announced at the ComicsPro retailer event, the new Batman series will be written by Matt Fraction (known for Uncanny X-Men and The Invincible Iron Man). Esteemed Batman artist Jorge Jiménez remains on board, collaborating with Fraction to design both a new costume and a redesigned Batmobile for the series. Batman will transition from his classic black and gray suit to a retro-inspired blue and gray ensemble. Take a look at the updated Batsuit below:

“I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Batman. It was the first comic I ever read,” Fraction shared. “Jorge and I are embracing a boldly superheroic take on Batman. We’re introducing a new Batmobile, a fresh costume, new characters, and plenty of familiar faces—both heroes and villains—that make Batman the most compelling figure in comics. We’re excited to celebrate everything that defines him.”

Batman #1 is scheduled for release in September 2025.

Alongside the Batman updates, DC offered additional insights into the future of the Superman line during ComicsPro, as part of the ongoing "Summer of Superman" event. Supergirl will star in a new series and receive a new costume designed by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau. Sophie Campbell (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) will write and illustrate the new series, which returns Kara to the town of Midvale.

“Early in my career, I focused on graphic novels that I both wrote and illustrated, so working on Supergirl in the same way feels like coming full circle,” Campbell explained. “My main inspirations for Kara Zor-El include the stories and vibrant costumes from the ’70s, the 1984 Supergirl film, and The CW series, which I adored. I’ll be weaving elements from these sources as the series progresses.”

Additionally, Action Comics will welcome a new creative team: Justice League Unlimited writer Mark Waid joins forces with Resonant artist Skylar Patridge. The series will shift its focus to Clark Kent’s teenage years in Smallville, chronicling his journey as Superboy and his early experiences with his developing powers.

“The story begins with Clark as a 15-year-old, learning what it means to be a superhero for the first time,” Waid noted. “What challenges come with mastering your abilities at that age? Skylar and I are also giving Smallville a contemporary feel—while it retains its rustic character, farms today don’t look exactly like they used to.”

Waid and Patridge’s run begins with Action Comics #1087 in June.

In more exciting news, DC has confirmed that Krypto is A Very Good Boy and will headline his own five-issue miniseries as part of the DC All In campaign. Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton is written by Ryan North (Fantastic Four) and illustrated by Mike Norton (Revival). The series promises an unprecedented deep dive into Krypto’s origins.

“Krypto’s backstory has often been summarized at a high level,” North remarked. “He starts on Krypton, finds his way to Earth, and helps Superman fight crime. The opportunity to truly define his journey—to explore what a lonely puppy would experience after crash-landing on an unfamiliar planet like Earth—was irresistible. We’re treating Krypto as the real dog he is: he doesn’t speak, and we avoid thought bubbles to keep it authentic. Mike Norton’s artwork perfectly conveys everything the story needs to express.”

Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #1 launches on June 18.
