After a remarkable 25-year hiatus, Capcom's cherished role-playing game, Breath of Fire IV, has made a triumphant return to PC gaming. Originally captivating audiences on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, and then in Europe the following year, the PC port graced European and Japanese markets in 2003. This classic game follows the journey of Ryu—a hero distinct from Capcom's other famous Ryu—who possesses the unique ability to transform into a dragon. Alongside a band of valiant warriors, Ryu embarks on a quest to thwart an emperor's nefarious plan to annihilate the world.
Thanks to GOG's ongoing Preservation Program, Breath of Fire IV has been meticulously updated for contemporary PCs and is now available DRM-free on their platform. This enhanced version is optimized for modern systems, boasting compatibility with Windows 10 and 11. It offers both English and Japanese localizations, and the graphics have been improved with an upgraded DirectX renderer. Players can enjoy new display options including Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction for superior visuals. Moreover, the audio engine has seen upgrades, with missing environmental sounds restored and new configuration options added, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
