Conquer the Legendary Battle of Hulao Gate in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

The Battle of Hulao Gate, a pivotal moment in Dynasty Warriors: Origins and a challenging chapter in Chapter 2, requires strategic planning and execution. This guide will help you overcome this notoriously difficult stage and defeat Dong Zhuo.

Initial Assault:

Begin by capturing the four enemy bases in the map's lower right quadrant. After securing two, a cutscene triggers, introducing mounted cavalry. Continue your base conquest; defeating Zhang Liao, the cavalry commander, rewards you with the twin pike weapon. Once all bases are under your control, attack Hulao Gate.

Facing Dong Zhuo's Forces:

The initial assault on Hulao Gate is chaotic. Prioritize protecting Cao Cao until he initiates his Grand Tactic, significantly weakening the enemy defenses.

Lu Bu's Intervention:

Dong Zhuo will deploy Lu Bu. Avoid direct confrontation. Lu Bu is overwhelmingly powerful at this stage. Instead, focus on eliminating enemy officers around the periphery to maintain morale, which Lu Bu's presence severely depletes. Lu Bu will eventually attack your main base (Yuan Shao). Resist the urge to pursue him; Liu Bei's forces will temporarily hold him off, giving you time to defeat Dong Zhuo. This creates a time constraint; if Liu Bei's forces are routed, Lu Bu will defeat Yuan Shao, ending the mission.

Defeating Dong Zhuo:

Once Lu Bu departs, resupply at a conquered base if needed. Capture the northern and western bases to prepare for the final assault. With all three squads ready, charge towards Dong Zhuo's command circle.

Dong Zhuo's Grand Tactics:

Dong Zhuo will unleash two Grand Tactics involving fireballs. The first requires destroying two catapults. Use Musou Rage if available, clearing a path through soldiers to reach and destroy the catapults.

The second Grand Tactic requires defeating an officer. Proceed to the stairs on the right, but be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan, fighting alongside Dong Zhuo. If possible, duel her to reduce the number of enemies. Once the Grand Tactic is countered, the path to Dong Zhuo is clear. Your forces should easily overwhelm his remaining troops.

Victory:

With Dong Zhuo's forces weakened, defeat him. There's no need for a drawn-out duel; he will offer little resistance at this point.
