The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has unveiled its extensive longlist of games vying for recognition at the 2025 BAFTA Games Awards. Check out the list to see if your favorite made the cut!
58 Games Compete for 17 Awards
BAFTA's 2025 longlist features 58 exceptional games across various genres, competing for awards in 17 categories. This selection represents a curated list from a total of 247 games submitted by BAFTA members, all released between November 25, 2023, and November 15, 2024.
The finalists for each category will be announced on March 4, 2025, with the awards ceremony taking place on April 8, 2025.
Ten Contenders for "Best Game"
The coveted "Best Game" award has ten strong contenders:
- ANIMAL WELL
- Astro Bot
- Balatro
- Black Myth: Wukong
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
- Helldivers 2
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
- Metaphor: ReFantazio
- Thank Goodness You’re Here!
- Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
Following the success of Baldur's Gate 3 in 2024, which won six awards from ten nominations, anticipation is high for this year's winner.
Notable Exclusions from "Best Game" Category
While many notable titles are included in the overall longlist, some prominent 2024 releases are absent from the "Best Game" category. This includes Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, and Silent Hill 2. According to BAFTA's rules, remasters released outside the eligibility period, full remakes, and substantial DLC are ineligible for the "Best Game" and "British Game" awards, though they may be considered for other categories demonstrating significant originality.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Silent Hill 2 remain in contention for awards such as Music, Narrative, and Technical Achievement. The absence of Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC from the BAFTA list is noteworthy, though it's expected to feature in other year-end awards.
