Avowed's Companions: A Ranked Guide from Worst to Best
Beyond their narrative roles and dialogue, Avowed's Companions offer practical advantages, from navigating obstacles to bolstering combat prowess. This guide ranks each Companion, from least to most effective.
- Marius

Early game utility aside, Marius proves quickly outmatched by later Companions. His strengths lie in item and plant discovery, but his combat capabilities are underwhelming. His abilities, detailed below, primarily focus on crowd control and weakening enemies, making him a niche choice for specific enemy types and melee-focused Envoys. He falls short for most of the Avowed journey.
- Blinding Roots: Roots enemies (upgradeable to stun, trap multiple, and inflict Bleed).
- Heart Seeker: Piercing shot that always hits (upgradeable to hit two enemies, increased damage to low-health enemies, and reduced cooldown).
- Shadow Step: Vanishes and attacks (upgradeable to instantly kill stunned enemies, increased damage to low-health enemies, and increased targets).
- Wounding Shots: Inflicts Bleed Accumulation (upgradeable to reduce enemy damage reduction, slow enemies, and reduce enemy damage).
- Giatta

Giatta, a support-focused Animancer, excels in healing, shielding, and buffing the party. While not a damage dealer, her utility is invaluable during challenging encounters. Her ability to maintain party health is a significant advantage, especially against bosses. She also unlocks late-game areas by activating Essence Generators. Synergizes well with magic-focused Envoys.
- Purification: Heals allies (upgradeable to increased healing, enemy interruption, and increased ally damage reduction).
- Barrier: Provides temporary health to allies (upgradeable to increased temporary health, healing on barrier expiration, and self-protection).
- Acceleration: Increases ally movement and attack speed (upgradeable to damage reduction, extended duration, and ability cooldown reduction).
- Reconstruction: Attacks heal allies (upgradeable to increased healing for low-health allies, temporary health for full-health allies, and ally revival on enemy kill).
- Kai

Despite being an early recruit, Kai remains a valuable asset throughout the game. A formidable tank, he delivers substantial damage with minimal player intervention. His self-revival ability makes him exceptionally reliable. His abilities are effective against both single strong enemies and groups. He can also use fire to clear obstacles.
- Fire and Ire: Blunderbuss attack with high stun and taunt (upgradeable to ignite, increased stun, and reduced cooldown).
- Unbending Defense: Health regeneration and damage reduction (upgradeable to increased damage reduction, increased regeneration, and shockwave damage).
- Leap of Daring: Area-of-effect stun and taunt (upgradeable to increased area of effect, temporary health per hit, and bonus attack damage per hit).
- Second Wind: Self-revival (upgradeable to increased health restoration, attack speed burst, and ability cooldown reset).
- Yatzli

Yatzli, a powerful Wizard, boasts high damage output and exceptional crowd control. She's the closest equivalent to air support in the Living Lands. Her abilities are potent and versatile, making her an invaluable companion for the latter stages of the game. She also clears environmental obstacles.
- Essence Explosion: Explosive arcane damage (upgradeable to increased blast radius, fire accumulation, and reduced cooldown).
- Minoletta’s Missile Battery: Volley of homing missiles (upgradeable to increased fire rate, range, and shock accumulation).
- Arduos Delay of Motion: Slows enemies (upgradeable to intensified slow, area-of-effect slow, and frost accumulation).
- Blast: Area-of-effect damage on hit (upgradeable to explosive damage for breaking blocks and walls, shattering frozen enemies, and increased stun chance with status effects).
Avowed launches on PC and Xbox on February 18.
