The Marvel Cinematic Universe is entering an exciting new chapter. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo have shared insights about how Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will differentiate from their previous MCU projects, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
During an exclusive interview with Brazilian outlet Omelete, the acclaimed director duo described Avengers 5 and 6 as launching points that will establish the framework for Phase 7 of the MCU.
"The most remarkable opportunity we had was completing a 20-film narrative arc," Joe Russo explained. "What makes these new Avengers films special is they represent a fresh start. We've told an ending - now we're crafting a beginning. The possibilities from this foundation are limitless."
A Creative Reunion for the Russo Brothers
The directors revealed their unexpected return to Marvel Studios: "After Endgame, we weren't certain about our MCU future," Anthony Russo noted. "Then inspiration struck - an idea so compelling it drew us back. We've assembled an incredible team, blending familiar collaborators with new talent, to tell this essential story."
Joe Russo acknowledged the pressure surrounding Doomsday: "This film carries tremendous expectations to revitalize theatrical experiences post-pandemic." Interestingly, they confirmed Kevin Feige initiated Robert Downey Jr.'s return, though initially resisted due to narrative concerns until screenwriter Stephen McFeely proposed a breakthrough concept.
