Ubisoft's upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows, launching this March, has added a notable voice actor to its cast. Mackenyu Arata, renowned for his portrayal of Roronoa Zoro in Netflix's One Piece adaptation, will voice a pivotal character.
Mackenyu will provide both Japanese and English voice acting for Gennojo, a key figure in Assassin's Creed Shadows' feudal Japan setting. Ubisoft describes Gennojo as a complex character, "a charming rogue, a trickster, and a deeply conflicted figure driven by guilt to dismantle a corrupt system." His motivations stem from a strong sense of justice, particularly concerning the vulnerable. He's described as flirtatious and reckless, yet possessing a compelling blend of wit and deceit.
While the exact timing of Gennojo's appearance remains undisclosed, his significance to the game's storyline is confirmed. According to Mackenyu, Gennojo is a member of the "Shinobi League" and can be considered a recruitable companion, assisting the player throughout their journey.
