Fresh calls for a new Star Wars Battlefront game have gained traction, boosted by a star from the acclaimed Andor series.
Over the past month, fans have flocked back to Star Wars Battlefront 2, released in 2017, driving its highest Steam player count in years, even though developer DICE ceased support long ago.
Muhannad Ben Amor, who portrays the heroic Wilmon Paak in Andor, has taken to social media to advocate for a full-fledged sequel.
"Star Wars needs to deliver Battlefront 3 soon," Amor posted on Instagram (via Comicbook), sharing that he has logged 469 hours in Battlefront 2. That’s an impressive feat, but stay grounded, hero.
"I grew up playing Battlefront 2 — a true fan from the start," Amor added. "Here’s hoping Battlefront 3 becomes a reality."
The recent surge in Star Wars Battlefront 2’s popularity aligns with the success of Andor’s gripping second season and the franchise’s annual May 4 festivities.
After years of averaging around 2,000 players on Steam, the game’s player base has steadily grown in recent weeks, nearing its all-time peak of 10,000 concurrent players.
Does this resurgence increase the chances of a Star Wars Battlefront 3? For now, DICE is focused on launching its next major Battlefield title, currently in player testing, with a full reveal expected this summer.
DICE may hesitate to revisit the series after Battlefront 2’s controversial launch tied to loot boxes. Over time, however, the game has won fans back. While EA, DICE’s parent company, no longer exclusively develops Star Wars titles, Respawn continues work on a Star Wars Jedi sequel in the same universe.
"Star Wars Battlefront 2 is a comeback story fit for the Skywalker saga," IGN noted in its 2019 re-review. "It’s now a stellar package, offering one of the most thrilling and authentic Star Wars gaming experiences."
