Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5090: A Powerhouse with a Price Tag

Leaked specifications suggest Nvidia's upcoming RTX 5090 graphics card will be a powerhouse, boasting a significant upgrade in memory and processing power. Key features include a massive 32GB of GDDR7 video memory—double that of the anticipated RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti—and a substantial 575W power draw. This high-performance card, codenamed Blackwell, is slated for an official unveiling at CES 2025 on January 6th.

The RTX 50 series represents Nvidia's next-generation graphics card lineup, arriving over two years after the RTX 40 series. Building upon its predecessor, the new series will leverage Tensor Cores for AI processing, incorporate DLSS upscaling, ray tracing technology, and offer PCIe 5.0 support for compatible motherboards. This launch will see the RTX 50 series compete directly with AMD's Radeon RX 9000 series and Intel's Battlemage GPUs.

Ahead of the official announcement, details emerged from Inno3D, an Nvidia AIB partner. Their iChill X3 RTX 5090, a triple-fan card occupying over three expansion slots, confirms the 32GB GDDR7 memory and the hefty 575W power requirement. This represents a considerable increase from the RTX 4090's 450W.

The RTX 5090's impressive specifications will undoubtedly come at a premium. While the exact price remains unconfirmed, industry speculation points to an MSRP exceeding $1999.

The entire RTX 50 series, including the RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti, will be showcased alongside the RTX 5090 during Nvidia's CES keynote on January 6th. The series will utilize a 16-pin power connector, with adapters provided by Nvidia and its partners. The high power consumption necessitates a robust power supply.

The impact of these high-end specifications and the expected price point on consumer adoption remains to be seen.
