Deadline reveló que The Forgotten Realms está siendo creado por Shawn Levy, director de Deadpool & Wolverine, junto con el guionista y showrunner Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) y Hasbro.
The Forgotten Realms sirve como el icónico escenario fantástico del juego de rol Dungeons & Dragons, previamente presentado en la película Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves y en el exitoso videojuego de Larian, Baldur’s Gate 3.
Deadline describió este proyecto "potencial" de Dungeons & Dragons como "una de las aventuras televisivas fantásticas más ambiciosas de Netflix hasta la fecha". Se dice que Crevello ha escrito el episodio piloto y actuará como showrunner, aunque Netflix y Hasbro no han proporcionado declaraciones oficiales.
"Tras extensas negociaciones, típicas para una IP de tanto perfil, la serie de fantasía ahora avanza en Netflix para su desarrollo posterior", informó Nellie Andreeva de Deadline. "Si tiene éxito, podría impulsar un universo más amplio de D&D."
Aunque la serie en acción real de Dungeons & Dragons parece prometedora, no hay noticias confirmadas sobre una secuela de Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, una película favorita de los fanáticos que no tuvo el rendimiento esperado en taquilla para Paramount Pictures.
En noviembre de 2023, el actor de Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Chris Pine, expresó entusiasmo por una secuela, afirmando que estaba "bastante optimista" al respecto, pero no ha habido actualizaciones desde entonces.
El CEO de Paramount, Brian Robbins, indicó que están abiertos a otra película de Dungeons & Dragons, siempre que se reduzca su presupuesto. "Necesitamos encontrar una manera de producirla de manera más rentable", señaló.
