Gameplay Basics: Players, Cards, and Objective

Tongits is a three-player game using a standard 52-card deck (no jokers). Card values are: Ace (1 point), Jacks, Queens, Kings (10 points each), and other cards at face value.

The objective is to create sets and runs, minimizing unmatched cards in your hand.

• Run: Three or more consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g., ♥4, ♥5, ♥6). Aces are low.
• Set: Three or four cards of the same rank (e.g., ♥7, ♣7, ♦7). A card can only be in one combination.

Game Flow: Dealing and Turns

The dealer is randomly chosen initially, then becomes the previous hand's winner. Thirteen cards are dealt to the dealer, twelve to others. The remaining cards form the stock.

Each turn involves:

1. Drawing: Take a card from the stock or discard pile (only from the discard pile if you can immediately meld it).
2. Melding: Expose sets or runs on the table (optional if drawing from the stock; mandatory if drawing from the discard pile). A set of four can be initially melded face down.
3. Laying Off (Sapaw): Add cards to existing melds (optional). Laying off on another player's meld prevents them from drawing next turn.
4. Discarding: Discard one card face up onto the discard pile.
